Business Energy Monitoring
In the current financial climate, the focus on energy saving in the office has intensified with a shift away from carbon reduction being dramatically overtaken by the desire to reduce costs. Whichever way you look at it, reducing the consumption of electricity in the office is a win on both sides. We're frequently contacted by businesses looking for a way to monitor and reduce their energy costs, hoping that the domestic wireless electricity monitors might be the answer. Although wireless monitors are a very useful tool for observing and reducing use in the home, unfortunately, they are of limited use in the office environment.
The new range of Business Energy Management equipment and software from Enistic offers a modular, scalable solution for both analysis and management of electricity consumption in the workplace with an Active Energy Management system which can be configured to automatically identify and shut down electrical equipment when it is not being used. The Enistic range has been available in the UK through selected energy management consultancies for the past year and a selection of the range is now available to buy online for self installation.
The Enistic system
The Enistic system is modular and comprises of three basic elements
- Smart Sockets which measure and transmit highly accurate consumption data
- A Zone Controller which receives the data and supplies it to a computer system
- Software which allows the analysis and control of the connected devices
The Enistic Energy Management System can be purchased either in kit form or as a collection of separate components and software. The kits are designed to create simple systems to get you started with a basic collection of hardware and software to meet general requirements. You can then add additional items to these kits, or build your own complete system tailored to your needs from the individual components. It makes goods sense to start off with a small kit in order to gain an understanding of how the system works and then expand it with more Smart Sockets and software as you identify your needs.
Powerdown 'Screensaver'
In addition to these three core elements, Enistic have produced the Powerdown Screensaver program which 'talks' to the Enistic Energy Online system over your network. This is important, because the Active Energy Management system is then able to determine if each computer is in use before shutting it down safely and switching off the power at the workstation.
We recommend the installation and operation of the Powerdown software on all PCs in your workplace.

Unlike the simple domestic wireless energy monitor, Enistic Smart Sockets are physically connected to the electricity supply and so they are able to report precisely how much electricity is being used in real time every second of every day, incorporating meter grade energy measuring circuits to ensure the figures are penny perfect.
Reliable ZigBee communication
The Smart Sockets, Sensors, and Zone Controllers in the Enistic range all communicate with each other wirelessly through the innovative ZigBee wireless protocol. The low-power Enistic ZigBee closed network operates in the 2.4GHz band and uses an adaptive mesh system which makes the communication network more resilient and increases the range as it grows.

The Energy Manager Online service is at the heart of the Enistic system. You can log into your Energy Manager Online account through any standard web browser. The system facilitates scaleable appliance level smart metering and energy management for offices of any size, from just a handful of employees to large organisations. The system is capable of providing a meter-accurate, real-time display of individual employees, air conditioning and lighting energy consumption and the associated monthly costs. For the first time, this allows energy saving targets to be set and measured for individuals and departments within a company simply and transparently at an affordable price with realistic payback periods.
A 12 month software licence is needed for each Enistic Smart Socket monitored by the Energy Manager system.

The Enistic Powerdown Screensaver software is more than just a screensaver. It is an integral part of the Enistic energy management system which enables each PC in the group to communicate with the Enistic Energy Manager Online suite. On a basic level, it performs the useful function of automatically turning off your PC at the end of the day should you inadvertently leave it on. More importantly, because the software communicates with the system it allows the PC to be powered down remotely as required.

The Enistic Ethernet Zone Controller acts as master interface between the Enistic Energy Manager Online system and the Smart Sockets, PCs running the Powerdown program, sensors, etc. The Zone Controller attaches to your internal network with an RJ45 cable, i.e. into a data point, router or hub and this will act as a bridge between the Enistic monitoring equipment and the Energy Manager Software.

The Enistic 5 Way Smart Socket with Surge Protection is an Appliance Level Smart Meter and Control System built into a useful 5 way socket. It is designed to be used exclusively as part of an Enistic Commercial electricity management system and therefore cannot be used as a standalone device. It is ideally suited for use within an office environment as a simple replacement for traditional 4 way extensions typically found under desks. Simply plug in your computer, monitor, speakers, blackberry charger etc into the sockets and the 5 way will send information to the Enistic Energy Manager about how much energy they are consuming every second.
