Direct Replacement LED Lamps
A genuine alternative to incandescent, halogen and compact fluorescent lamps
The next generation of home lighting has arrived, using intensely bright LEDs as a light source instead of either traditional tungsten filaments or hazardous compact fluorescent tubes. The latest LED lamps have been designed to provide a real alternative to traditional incandescent lamps with superb light quality, 100% instant-on full output illumination, very low power consumption and extremely long service life.
With the phasing out of traditional incandescent light bulbs now underway, many consumers have found the compact fluorescent alternatives to be unsatisfactory, being slow to reach full brightness and having poor light quality. Some consumers have even complained of health issues surrounding compact fluorescent lamps.
Advantages of LED lighting
Using the latest super-bright LEDs as a low energy light source instead of the much maligned compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) has many advantages:
- Instant on full light output
- VERY low power consumption
- Suitable for frequent on/off switching
- No flickering or buzzing
- No migraines / headaches
- No harmful UV radiation
- Mercury free construction
- High quality light with excellent colour rendering properties
- Up to 50,000 hour lumen maintenance (over 20 years average use)
Cost effective
At first glance the cost of this new lamp technology may seem high, but these lamps are engineered to outlast compact fluorescent lamps many times over. Although the service life of CFLs is often stated as 6-7 years, in real-world use even good quality CFLs may have either failed from frequent switching or their light output faded to unacceptably low levels after only a couple of years service. This means that in normal use, a single LED lamp could replace as many as ten good quality compact fluorescent lamps, costing as much as £5 each or even £10 each for MegaMan branded R80 downlighter spotlights.
Save energy and money
With a power consumption as low as half that of equivalent CFLs and one tenth of traditional incandescent lamps, LED is the natural energy saving successor to the traditional incandescent lamp. LED lamps are available in a wide range of styles and sizes as direct replacements for most traditional incandescent and halogen lights throughout the home, including GU10 and MR16 spotlights often found in kitchens and track lighting systems.
Don't stock-pile energy-wasting GLS lamps, invest in the new LED technology today!
Auraglow 7w LED GU10 320lm Spotlight (Warm White)
These Auraglow branded GU10 LED spotlights offer a potential low-cost alternative to the top quality lamps from Aeon. Clearly, they don't have the claimed lumen output of the top-end lamps in the Aeon range, but are worth considering for lower light level applications or where a drop in light output compared to 50w halogens would be acceptable. If you've done your research, you'll know that 320lm is pretty good for a 7w LED GU10 in warm white. According to EU guidelines, this makes the lamp's light output equivalent to a traditional 30 Watt lamp.
The manufacturer's stated output of 320lm is at a colour temperature of 3000k with a rather tight 30 degree beam angle, so better suited to higher ceilings or accent lighting. You may find these a little on the cool side for warm white. At 60mm, these lamps are longer than halogen GU10 lamps and may be too long to suit some fittings where the lamp is retained by a circlip, so check first.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. If the lumen output of an LED lamp is not stated in the description DON'T BUY IT, no matter how many superlatives are used to describe how bright it is. The average price of these Auraglow lamps is pretty good for 320 lumens.

Auraglow 7w LED GU10 350lm Spotlight (Cool White)
These Auraglow branded GU10 LED spotlights offer a potential low-cost alternative to the top quality lamps from Aeon. Clearly, they don't have the claimed lumen output of the top-end lamps in the Aeon range, but are worth considering for lower light level applications or where a drop in light output compared to 50w halogens would be acceptable. If you've done your research, you'll know that 350lm is pretty good for a 7w LED GU10 in cool white. According to EU guidelines, this makes the lamp's light output equivalent to a traditional 32 Watt lamp.
The manufacturer's stated output of 350lm is at a colour temperature of 6000k with a rather tight 30 degree beam angle, so better suited to higher ceilings or accent lighting. Cool white lamps such as these are more suitable for shop display lighting than general home lighting. At 60mm, these lamps are longer than halogen GU10 lamps and may be too long to suit some fittings where the lamp is retained by a circlip, so check first.

Dimmable 6W LED GU10 480lm (Warm White)
This DIMMABLE GU10 240v LED spotlight is driven by 3 x Epistar 2W chips and is claimed to produce an impressive 480lm, which is equivalent to a 40 Watt incandescent lamp. The price of these lamps is incredibly reasonable considering the lumen output, and even more so given that they are also dimmable. When selecting dimmable LED lamps, you should be aware that the colour temperature does not decrease i.e. become warmer as you dim the lamp, and that they are usually compatible only with dedicated low load dimmers. This lamp is sold as Warm White, with a colour temperature of 3,000k. The fixed polycarbonate beam lens produces a 45 degree beam, suitable for general lighting applications.
The stated length of 58mm is quite compact for a dimmable LED GU10, making it suitable for installation in a broad range of fittings, although it is unlikely to fit into a designs using a circlip to retain the lamp.

6w LED GU10 320lm Spotlight (Warm White)
These unbranded 6w (3x2w) GU10 LED spotlights are manufactured using Edison LED modules to produce a claimed 320lm output in warm white at a respectably warm 2,800k. The price is reasonable for the lumen output. You'll know from your research that 320lm is better than most cheaper LED GU10 spotlights on the market, so give these lamps serious consideration. You should note that the seller's claim of these lamps being equivalent to 50 Watts is inaccurate, their 320 lumen output makes them comparable to a 30 Watt incandescent lamp.
The lamp design incorporates three integral polycarbonate beam lenses to control the beam angle at 45 degrees, making them suitable for general lighting in average to high ceilings and for accent lighting. If the colour temperatue of 2,800k is accurate, these lamps should produce a warm light fairly close to traditional halogen spotlights.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. The price of these unbranded lamps is very reasonable for 320 lumens, but the claimed lumen maintenance life of 50,000 hours may be a little optimistic and is a typical claim of Chinese manufacturers, so take it with a pinch of salt.
At 65mm, the overall length of these lamps is rather on the long side, making them potentially unsuitable for fittings where the lamp is retained by a circlip, so please check first.

6w LED GU10 380lm Spotlight (Cool White)
These unbranded 6w (3x2w) GU10 LED spotlights are manufactured using Edison LED modules to produce a claimed 380lm output in cool white at 6,500k. The price is reasonable for the lumen output. You'll know from your research that 380lm from 6w is better than many cheaper LED GU10 spotlights on the market, so give these lamps serious consideration. You should note that the seller's claim of these lamps being equivalent to 60 Watts is outrageously inaccurate, their 380 lumen output makes them comparable to only a 34 Watt incandescent lamp.
The lamp design incorporates three integral polycarbonate beam lenses to control the beam angle at 45 degrees, making them suitable for general lighting in average to high ceilings and for accent lighting. If the colour temperatue of 6,500k is accurate, these lamps should produce a crisp daylight white suitable for shop windows displays, or where a more morder feel is required.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. The price of these unbranded lamps is very reasonable for 380 lumens, but the claimed lumen maintenance life of 50,000 hours may be a little optimistic and is a typical claim of Chinese manufacturers, so take it with a pinch of salt.

ALT (Aeon Lighting) GU10 7W LED Spot 45 Degree 400lm Warm White
Aeon Lighting Technology (ALT) manufacture the most powerful GU10 LED spotlights available in the UK, but they can be difficult to source. This V4 Aeon lamp incorporates a 7 Watt four-way Luxeon chip design producing a Warm White 400 lumen ouput with a narrow 45 degree beam angle. The 45 degree degree fixed beam of light is a good choice where a more closely defined area of light is required. Despite being a little longer than ordinary halogen GU10 lamps, these 7w LED GU10s are perfect for use in recessed ceiling fittings where the lamp is held in place by a retaining circlip. According to EU guidelines, at 400 lumens this lamp's light output is equivalent to a traditional 35 Watt lamp.

Kosnic 5w LED GU10 300lm Spotlight (Warm White)
These GU10 LED spotlights from Kosnic are a potential budget alternative to the top quality lamps from Aeon. Clearly, they don't have the claimed lumen output of the top-end lamps in the Aeon range, but have a good build quality, so are worth considering for lower light level applications or where a drop in light output compared to 50w halogens would be acceptable. If you've done your research, you'll know that 300lm is pretty good for a 5w LED GU10 in warm white. According to EU guidelines, a 300 lumen LED lamp is equivalent to a traditional 28 Watt lamp.
The manufacturer's stated output of 300lm is at a colour temperature of 3000k with a 36 degree beam angle. You may find these a little on the cool side for warm white. Feedback suggests that these Kosnic lamps are sometimes too long to suit fittings where the lamp is retained by a circlip, so check first.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. If the lumen output of an LED lamp is not stated in the description DON'T BUY IT, no matter how many superlatives are used to describe how bright it is. 3w LED GU10 Spotlight 290lm (Warm White)
These unbranded 3w GU10 LED spotlights are as cheap as chips, and claim to produce 290 lumens with a 38 degree beam angle. The colour temperature is described as Warm White, being estimated at 3,000k (a bit high for warm, but okay). Despite the seller claiming these lamps are equivalent to 40 watt incandescents in the title, 290 lumens is really only equal to a 27 watt lamp. We're also a little bit concerned about the claim of 290lm at 3,000k from only 3 watts because this would make their efficiency an incredible 96lm/watt! We consider this unlikely to be correct, so either the power consumed is greater than 3 watts, or the lumen output is much less than 290. Tread carefully here!
The lamp design incorporates an integral polycarbonate triple beam lens to control the beam angle at 38 degrees. Combined with the low 290 lumen output, this makes them better suited to accent lighting, and unsuitable for general room illumination.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. The price of these unbranded lamps is very reasonable, if 290 lumen output is correct.
At just 50mm, the length of these lamps makes them a good fit for fittings where the lamp is retained by a circlip.

5w LED GU10 Spotlight 395lm (Warm White)
These unbranded 5w GU10 LED spotlights claim an impressive 395 lumen output at a very reasonable price. The colour temperature is described as Warm White, being estimated at 3,000k (a bit high for warm, but okay). Despite the seller claiming these lamps as being equivalent to 55 watt incandescents, 395 lumens is really only equal to a 35 watt lamp.
The lamp design incorporates five integral polycarbonate beam lenses to control the beam angle at 45 degrees, making them suitable for general lighting in average to high ceilings and for accent lighting.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. The price of these unbranded lamps is very reasonable indeed if the 395 lumen output is accurate, but the claimed lumen maintenance life of 50,000 hours may be a little optimistic and is a typical claim of Chinese manufacturers, so take it with a pinch of salt.

6w LED GU10 450lm Spotlight (Warm White)
Although these unbranded GU10 LED spotlights are manufactured using older multiple surface mount device (SMD) technology, they claim to consume only 6 Watts to produce a very impressive 450lm output in warm white at 3,000k. The use of the older SMD LED's makes them much cheaper to manufacture, hence the low price. You'll know from your research that 450lm from 6 Watts is very good indeed, so give these lamps serious consideration. According to EU guidelines, 450 lumens of LED light is equivalent to a 38 Watt traditional lamp.
There's no lens to control the beam angle of these lamps, so the angle is stated at 120 degrees, which should still be okay for general lighting purposes at lower ceiling heights, but less suitable for accent lighting.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. If the lumen output of an LED lamp is not stated in the description DON'T BUY IT, no matter how many superlatives are used to describe how bright it is. The price of these lamps is incredibly good if they live up to the claimed 450 lumen output, but they do use older SMD LEDs so look a bit odd when not in use.

Dimmable Auraglow 7w LED GU10 280lm Spotlight (Warm White)
These DIMMABLE Auraglow branded GU10 LED spotlights have a stated output of 280lm, making them equivalent to a 27 Watt incandescent lamp. At such a low initial light output you have to question the point of them being dimmable, but they are worth considering for lower light level applications or where a drop in light output compared to 50w halogens would be acceptable. The length of this lamp is pretty long for a GU10, being 65mm. You should therefore check that your fittings will take these lamps before ordering.
Dimmable LED lamps can sometimes be controlled with existing dimmer switches, but we'd advise replacing your current switchwith one designed specifically for LED lamps to reduce flicker and provide a wide dimming range. You should also be advised that dimming these lamps will not reduce their colour temperature i.e. they will not become warmer, as is the case with traditional incandescent lamps.

Interlux 5w LED GU10 400lm Spotlight (Warm White)
Although these Interlux 5w GU10 LED spotlights are manufactured using older multiple surface mount device (SMD) technology, they claim to consume only 5 Watts to produce an impressive 400lm output in warm white at a somewhat vague 2,700-3,500k. The use of the older SMD LED's makes them much cheaper to manufacture, hence the low price. You'll know from your research that 400lm from 5 Watts is very good indeed, so give these lamps serious consideration. According to EU guidelines, 400 lumens of LED light is equivalent to a 35 Watt traditional lamp.
There's no lens to control the beam angle of these lamps, so the angle is stated at 120 degrees, which should still be okay for general lighting purposes at lower ceiling heights, but less suitable for accent lighting. Be warned about that wide colour temperature range. Typically, warm white lamps should be 3,000k or less, ideally hitting 2,700k.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. If the lumen output of an LED lamp is not stated in the description DON'T BUY IT, no matter how many superlatives are used to describe how bright it is. Interlux 5w LED GU10 400lm Spotlight (Cool White)
Although these Interlux 5w GU10 LED spotlights are manufactured using older multiple surface mount device (SMD) technology, they claim to consume only 5 Watts to produce a 400 lumen output in cool white at a somewhat wide 5,500-7,000k. The use of the older SMD LED's makes them much cheaper to manufacture, hence the low price. You'll know from your research that 400lm from 5w is very good, so give these lamps serious consideration if looking for a bright, cool GU10 LED. According to EU regulations, a 400 lumen LED lamp must be described as being equivalent to a 35 Watt traditional lamp.
There's no lens to control the beam angle of these lamps, so the angle is stated at 120 degrees, which should still be okay for general lighting purposes at lower ceiling heights, but less suitable for accent lighting. Be warned about that wide colour temperature range. Typically, cool white lamps should be 6,500k or less, ideally hitting 6,000k to avoid appearing too blue. We're a bit worried that the warm and cool versions of this lamp both have the same claimed lumen output of 400lm, when you'd expect the cool lamp to be significantly brighter than the warm one for the same wattage.
LED lamps are generally priced according to their lumen output, not their wattage. If the lumen output of an LED lamp is not stated in the description DON'T BUY IT, no matter how many superlatives are used to describe how bright it is. Cree 9W 12V MR16 LED 480lm Spot (Warm White)
These MR16 LED spotlights manufactured by Leder incorporate 3 x 3 Watt Cree LED modules and claim an impressive 480 lumen output, making them equivalent to a standard 40 Watt incandescent lamp. With a beam angle of 45 degrees and a stated Warm White colour temperature of 3,000k, they should be a reasonably good match for replacing halogen MR16 lamps in a wide range of applications, including general lighting. Although the seller describes these LED lamps as a straight swap for ordinary halogen MR16 lamps, it may be necessary to change the low voltage transformer if the existing unit does not produce a stable 12 volt supply at lower loads.
Once again, this seller is describing these lamps as having a 50,000 hour lumen maintenance period. None of the branded manufacturers are making claims of such long life, so we'd advise against taking this figure seriously. We're also a little concerned that the seller of these lamps is declaring the same lumen output for both the Warm and Cool White versions of the same lamp. We'd expect to see the Warm White lamp as having a lower lumen output than its Cool White conterpart.

Cree 9W 12V MR16 LED 480lm Spot (Cool White)
These MR16 LED spotlights manufactured by Leder incorporate 3 x 3 Watt Cree LED modules and claim an impressive 480 lumen output, making them equivalent to a standard 40 Watt incandescent lamp. With a beam angle of 45 degrees and a stated Cool White colour temperature of 3,000k, they should be a reasonably good match for replacing halogen MR16 lamps where a modern hi-tech look is required.
None of the branded manufacturers are making claims of such long life, so we'd advise taking this figure with a pinch of salt.

- MR16 / GX5.3 Fitting

MR16 7W LED Spot (Warm White)

This is our latest MR16 LED spotlight. It still uses the industry-leading CREE MC-E LED module, but the unique finned heatsink design allows the module to be driven to 7w, generating even more light than our 4w lamps with a very wide beam. It's easily a match for a standard 50w halogen MR16 lamp, which it should outlast up to twenty five times over. This Warm White version has a wide 120 degree fixed beam of light, similar to an ordinary tungsten halogen MR16 lamp. It is a straight swap for an ordinary halogen MR16 lamp, although it may be necessary to change the low voltage transformer if the existing unit does not produce a stable 12 volt supply at lower loads.

- 12V AC/DC Constant Voltage

- 7w (50w+ Equiv.)
- ~2900k Warm White

MR16 12v LED spotlights draw only a fraction of the current of equivalent halogen lamps. This can cause problems with supply voltages of existing electronic transformers, where the output voltage may rise under low current draw. Our constant voltage 35 Watt LED driver module can power up to ten 3w LED lamps or eight 4w lamps wired in parallel and will ensure maximum service life from your LED lighting investment. Should be fitted by a qualified electrician or competent person.
- Constant voltage LED driver
- Input 200-240VAC 0.45A
- Output 12VDC 3.0A
- Can drive up to 35 watts of LED lights
- Lamps should be wired in parallel
- Not dimmable
LightPlanet 7w B22 LED Light Bulb 450lm Warm White
These bulb-shaped LED lamps are produced by leading Taiwanese LED lighting manufacturer TESS and are exclusively distributed in the UK by LightPlanet. Powered by the CREE MX-6 LED chipset, these lamps produce a credible 450 lumen in a very Warm White 2,700k, making them ideal for general lighting throughout the home. Despite falling well short of the EU guideline of 806lm for a 60w incandescent replacement, we have found that these lamps offer a genuine alternative to a 60w bulb in a wide range of applications where a slight drop in luminance is acceptable. The bulb is light and compact, being only 107mm in length and 60mm in diameter.
This Warm White LED bulb has a standard B22 fitting.
Considering the price of these bulbs compared to the £40 Philips 12w MasterLEDs, we think they are an absolute bargain.

Auraglow 7w B22 LED Light Bulb 450lm Warm White
The specification and price of these 7 Watt LED bulbs from Auraglow make them a realistic alternative to CFL lamps which are notoriously slow to start and quick to fade. The stated output of 450lm officially makes them equivalent to a 38w incandescent lamp, although you may well be pleasantly surprised at how close they are to standard 60w lamps in use. The Warm White colour temperture of 3,000k will appear slightly cooler than a regular light bulb, but shouldn't take too long to adjust to.
LED bulbs are ideal for installation in bathrooms and hallways where lights are frequently turned on and off, reaching their full brightness within a fraction of a second.
The manufacturer is claiming a 35,000 lumen maintenenace period for this lamp and backing it up with a generous five year guarantee. Considering the price of these bulbs compared to the £40 Philips 12w MasterLEDs, we think they are an absolute bargain.

Philips MasterLED 12w B22 LED Light Bulb 806lm Warm White
Since Philips won the US L Prize earlier this year, we've been eagerly anticipating the release of a commercial bulb-shaped lamp based on their winning design. Now it's here (well, almost) in the shape of this unusual looking 12w MasterLED lamp. The reason we say 'almost' is because the L Prize lamp needed to produce over 900lm from less than 10w.

Don't be fooled by the orange appearance of this lamp when not illuminated, there's a very good reason for this. The orange diffuser serves to promote an authentic warm white light output which increases in warmth as the lamp is dimmed - something that other dimmable lamps have previously failed to achieve.
Yes, these lamps are pricey, but consider this: They are the only domestic lamps in production which currently meet the EU directive on wattage comparison labelling for a 60 watt bulb. At 806 lumens, these lamps hit the nail on the head. At the time of writing (October 2011), these lamps are quite simply the most advanced LED GLS replacement available in the UK.

Was £39.99 NOW £32.49 While Stocks Last!
This DIMMABLE LED light bulb can be dimmed with an ordinary dimmer switch and is designed to replace standard light bulbs used throughout the home with a light output approximately equivalent to a 50-60w incandescent (GLS) lamp. The bulb uses 5 x CREE 1w P2 chips and is very warm white. The diffuser cap is designed to provide a reasonably wide dispersal of the available light. We find that this lamp is suited very well to uplighting applications including standard lamps and table lamps. In a pendant fitting, the majority of the light output is naturally cast downwards. This Warm White dimmable lamp has a standard bayonet base cap found in most UK light fittings.

These minimalist design downlights are complete fittings, incorporating a solid powder coated aluminium lamp body, LED emitter, heatsink, and external 240v mains powered low voltage 320mA DC driver. The 7W 240v LED downlight uses a standard 4-way CREE MC-E module, but the large heatsink design allows the LED emitter to be driven harder for an equivalent standard halogen lamp output of over 60 Watts, yet uses only a fraction of the electricity to run and will outlast up to twenty five standard halogen GU10 lamps. This Warm White model is supplied fitted with a wide 120 degree clear lens for a focused, crisp beam of light, similar to a tungsten halogen lamp. A frosted lens is available as an optional accessory.
With their high light output and wide beam angle, we expect these lamps to primarily be of interest for those designing new low energy lighting projects. However, depending on the design of your existing GU10 lamp fittings, it may be possible to retro-fit these lamps into existing lighting installations. If you intend to replace existing fittings with these lamps, please check that original ceiling cutout is the same size or smaller before ordering.

The beam lens retaining ring is reasonably easy to remove by hand, by rotating it anti-clockwise. If you're lacking in the finger-nail department or a bit worried about getting it wrong, this simple tool will fit into the two slots for effortless removal.
Please make sure that you do not 'cross-thread' or over tighten the retaining ring when replacing it. Lamp, lens and retaining ring not included.
