The Eco-Eye - new for 2008
Launched to the UK market in February 2008, Eco-eye is a British made real-time electricity monitor which helps you keep an eye on the total amount of electricity consumed in your home and constantly displays this information in a user-friendly way.
Extended features
Like most wireless energy monitors, Eco-eye displays your estimated current household electricity consumption in Kilowatts and pence per hour.
In addition to these figures, with the simple press of a button, Eco-Eye can translate that same information into a projected total cost by day, week, month and year. Eco-eye can also display your greenhouse gas emissions in the same form, and has a built-in memory function which enables you to view historical usage and costs over a period of up to 32 months.
Channel selection
One of the issues we've experienced here while evaluating many different brands of wireless electricity monitors is that when two monitors of the same type are situated close to each other it can be quite difficult to determine if the display unit is picking up signals from the correct transmitter. This may present a problem in modern, high density housing where meters are often in external boxes and situated quite close to each other. In a feature unique to the Eco-Eye, both the transmitter and receiver can be set to operate on any of 30 selectable channels to avoid possible interference.
Two models
The Eco-Eye is currently available in two versions. The standard Eco-Eye has a large and easy to read display, making it extremely suitable for wall-mounting in a prominent position within the home. The Eco-Eye Mini has a much smaller display unit with an equally crisp LCD panel. Both units carry the same functions, utilizing identical sensor pick-ups and transmitters.
The Eco-Eye uses proprietary battery management technology which aims to extend the life of transmitter batteries significantly beyond that of competing products. The transmitter and display units each run on two AA size batteries which are supplied with the monitor, together with a handy meter box key. If preferred, both the transmitter and display units can be powered by external DC adapters, which are available to purchase here separately.

We are advised by the manufacturer that they are already well on the way to producing a secondary receiver unit for the Eco-Eye which will allow data to be transferred to a PC via USB for detailed analysis. This exciting new product in the Eco-Eye range is expected to be available from Spring 2009 with an estimated retail price of £39.99.

This is the Mini version of the Eco-Eye which has a more compact display unit (the smallest on the market) with a display area similar in size to the very popular Efergy. These additional Mini display units are great for using around the home alongside your main unit so that you can monitor your electricity usage in two places at once. Perhaps keep the main display in the kitchen and use an extra Mini in the lounge or study? Both displays will show the same information simultaneously.

Both Eco-Eye monitors run on standard AA batteries, but they can also be powered by these DC power adapters. They are lightweight high efficiency power adaptors which consume very little energy.
