These bulb-shaped LED lamps are produced by leading Taiwanese LED lighting manufacturer TESS and are exclusively distributed in the UK by LightPlanet. Powered by the CREE MX-6 LED chipset, these lamps produce a credible 450 lumen in a very Warm White 2,700k, making them ideal for general lighting throughout the home. Despite falling well short of the EU guideline of 806lm for a 60w incandescent replacement, we have found that these lamps offer a genuine alternative to a 60w bulb in a wide range of applications where a slight drop in luminance is acceptable. The bulb is light and compact, being only 107mm in length and 60mm in diameter.

This Warm White LED bulb has a standard B22 fitting. Considering the price of these bulbs compared to the £40 Philips 12w MasterLEDs, we think they are an absolute bargain.

The lamp is well constructed with a ceramic insulator and white powder coated cast alloy heatsink. The diffuser cap is formed in thick frosted polycarbonate, making it very tough and durable. The manufacturer cautiously estimates a 10,000 hour lifetime for this lamp, which equates to around 10 years average use, but we suspect that the actual working life of this lamp will be considerably longer. LED lightbulbs contain no mercury, emit no UV or IR light and last around ten times longer than compact fluorescent equivalents. LED lamps reach full brightness immediately, and their light output does not fade over time.
