Since Philips won the US L Prize earlier this year, we've been eagerly anticipating the release of a commercial bulb-shaped lamp based on their winning design. Now it's here (well, almost) in the shape of this unusual looking 12w MasterLED lamp. The reason we say 'almost' is because the L Prize lamp needed to produce over 900lm from less than 10w.

Don't be fooled by the orange appearance of this lamp when not illuminated, there's a very good reason for this. The orange diffuser serves to promote an authentic warm white light output which increases in warmth as the lamp is dimmed - something that other dimmable lamps have previously failed to achieve.

Yes, these lamps are pricey, but consider this: They are the only domestic lamps in production which currently meet the EU directive on wattage comparison labelling for a 60 watt bulb.
