Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector
This might seem an unusual product to be featuring in our Engery Saving Accessories section, but please bear with us. Domestic heating is likely to be the largest consumer of energy in your home, but there is little scope for any reduction in consumption other than increasing your insulation and turning down the thermostat.
So how do you know if your home is properly insulated or not?
You've probably seen those hi-tec thermal imaging cameras on television where an image is produced of the home, showing the hotspots where the house is 'leaking' heat away. Those cameras are frighteningly expensive, but there is potentially another way you can check for cool/hotspots using an Infrared Thermometer like this one from Black & Decker.
Infrared thermometers measure radiated heat, so by using one of these, you will be able to examine the windows, walls and doors of your home to gain an understanding of the heat potentially being lost. Internally, lost heat will show up as cold spots. Conversely, lost heat on the outside of your home will be measured as hot spots. There are quite a few Infrared Thermometers on the market to choose from. We've selcted the Black & Decker TLD100 here because it incorporates an easy to read light beam projection system to show hot or cold spots, making it easier to scan larger areas.
